In the business course of study students will explore topics related to finance and commerce. Courses include topics in analyzing business transactions, economics, business law, and marketing. Students planning to major in business in college should take a variety of these courses.
ADVERTISING - BU103
prerequisites: None credits: 1/2 grades offered: 9,10, 11, 12 This course is designed to give students general knowledge of advertising and its role in our society. They will understand the advantages and disadvantages of print, digital, and broadcast media. This course is a good foundation for those students pursuing higher education in business, communications, marketing, and/or advertising. ____________________ GOOGLE AND OTHER SOFTWARE APPS - BU101 prerequisites: None credits: 1/2 grades offered: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course will develop basic computer skills in the following areas: keyboarding techniques, document formatting, electronic communication techniques, file management, and basic software applications. Students will construct various forms and reports required in the college and business world. Instruction will introduce students to Google Workspace, Drive Applications, and other online resources. ____________________ BUSINESS AND STREET LAW I - BU204 prerequisites: None credits: 1/2 grades offered: 10, 11, 12 Laws that affect everyday living are stressed as the student examines civil and criminal law and the operation of our courts system. This semester course includes topics on special laws affecting minors and consumers, contracts, buying and selling goods, using credit, automobile insurance, landlords and tenants, wills, and estate planning. ____________________ LEADERSHIP - BU302 prerequisites: None credits: 1/2 grades offered: 10, 11, 12 This semester elective course will focus on the development of students into influential leaders who are able to positively impact others and maximize the results of themselves and the teams upon which they are a part of. Throughout this course, students will look at leadership theory, self-reflection, practical analysis, and implementation into their own lives. Students will analyze leadership styles, risks, rewards, and responsibilities of all types of leaders. |
FINANCIAL LITERACY - BU203
prerequisites: None credits: 1/2 grades offered: 10, 11, 12 Financial Literacy is a course designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand, analyze, and make decisions that impact their entire lives. Students will learn about budgeting, savvy consumer techniques for shopping, paying for college, what are taxes and how to file at the end of the year, how to invest and budget money, banking, employee benefits, retirement and labor laws, credit and its impact on society and how to make major purchases like homes and cars. Students will become educated investors, employees and consumers . This class fulfills the financial literacy requirement needed to graduate. ____________________ INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS - BU100 prerequisites: None credits 1/2 grades offered: 9, 10, 11, 12 This semester course is designed to introduced students to the role of consumer, worker and citizen. The course will focus on responsible consumer decision making, on preparing for future employment and on citizenship. The course will introduce a variety of topics including accounting, money management, economics, business law and business management. Students completing this course will have a solid foundation to pursue other business courses. ____________________ IB BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SL - YR 1 (11TH) - BU620 IB BUSINESS MANAGEMENT HL - YR 2 (12TH) - BU720 prerequisites: None credits: 1 grades offered: 11, 12 * Can be taken for individual IB Course Credit This course will explore the world of business via five topic: business organization and environment, human resources, finance, marketing, and operations. Business management will examine how business decisions are influenced by factors internal and external to an organization, and how these decisions impact upon it stakeholders, both internally and externally. Students will learn to analyze, discuss and evaluate business activities at a local, national and international levels. Students will produce a commentary based on a real world issue facing a particular organization. This course fills a Group 3 requirement within the IB diploma program. ____________________ MICROSOFT OFFICE - BU202 prerequisites: Google and Other Software Apps credits: 1/2 grades offered: 9, 10, 11, 12 Explore the Microsoft Office suite. Learn to write documents, take notes, create spreadsheets, and presentations. Our MS Office class covers a wide range of software titles including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. ____________________ SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT - BU201 prerequisites: * credits: 1/2 grades offered: 10, 11, 12 *It is strongly recommended that Introduction to Business be taken prior to this course. Project and simulation based, this course is an excellent choice for any student who wants to learn about starting a business. Students will develop a business plan for the creation of their own business They will apply acquired knowledge to the management and operation of their business. |
